Its not a Malaga thing - over here in Huelva province the renewal letter and the cita Previa website had notices reminding one to be able to provide insurance documents at the ITV. Whether anybody will actually ask to see them there, who knows!
Glad you got sorted out Gerry!

We never get a letter for our renewal just an email from Liberty Seguros so I don't have any paper copy of confirmation that we are insured. Would the official bank receipt do .... that's what we used to have to carry in the car to prove payment of insurance in the past. It was a friend's car we took last week and their paperwork was from LD and all OK.

Liberty have always sent a downloadable PDF of our insurance certificate on renewal. May be worth checking the email to see if there is anything lower down the page? They should certainly send you one on request.

What they require is the bank receipt showing the period of validity and proof of payment.

We've just renewed with liberty and got 3 PDF downloads to cover the documentation, they were appended at the bottom of the letter of renewal.. Did you use an agent? The will help if you did.

I always have to contact them each year for the price of the car insurance renewal as I never seem to receive any correspondence for the car although do receive a letter for the house insurance OK. I still have the email and there's no documents attached. I once asked them years back for the green paper document with the details on but I was told they don't issue that every year if nothing has changed. I do have the bank receipt showing all the car details on as proof of payment. I use the Nerja Liberty Insurance office (used to be Knights Insurance).

I received the fantastic sum of 2.50€ on Monday, direct credit to my account from Liberty. I have no idea why.

Just back from getting my car ITV'd at El Palo [east Malaga]. No mention of insurance. Incidentally, it passed with a missing brake light and a cracked steering dust cover. I just scraped through the emissions, though.

An interesting thread.....

Just back from taking our twenty three year old Peugeot 306 to it's ITV at Moron de la Fronteria in Sevilla province, where it passed without problem, but no mention of checking any insurance documents (which incidentally we had ready for inspection). There again, it was 07:50 and before dawn on a freezing Saturday morning, so perhaps nothing so controversial was to be expected......

Regards to All

Same up this way........no insurance check.

Does it really matter? Just take the documents in case they want them. Often, like many things in Spain, the man behind the desk makes up the rules or decides to ignore them.

Exactly. As said before, you'd probably be carrying (copies of) the docs in the car anyway, so no hassle to produce them if asked.

I don't know why folk get so hooked on this issue, and keep on raising it.
Next.

You are so right.

Peteroldracer answered the question fully in the second post. We now have 53 posts on the thread, none of which have added any more useful information.

Took my car to the Algarrobo ITV testing station today.
Handed over my documents, except for the insurance documentation.
He typed in all the details etc and handed me the documents and paperwork.
I asked him if he wanted the insurance documentation.
No need, he said, it's all on his computer.
Don't you just love consistency ??? when dealing with anything official.
Cheers

You can be guaranteed that if you hadn't have taken it they would have wanted to see it Gerry!
