Health care in Spain
Hi,
I have just joined this forum, so my first time asking a question. My wife and I are both UK pensioner and wanting to move to Andalucia. Our concern is on helth care. Would we receive state health care after Brexit. Any help/information would be much appreciated.

In my opinion who knows what will happen after Brexit whenever and however it might happen.
Hopefully those of us already living here, and anybody who gets into the Spanish system before Brexit, will continue to get state health care.
Cheers

Re: Health care in Spain
This is very difficult to answer because until there is a deal, nothing is certain.
All I can offer is my opinion which is that I don’t believe anything much will change regarding situations like yours no matter what the outcome is because it’s difficult to imagine why Spain would stop people who are financially independent from moving here.
France has already come out this week and said that even if there were no agreement, they would have a reciprocal one in place pretty quickly and I suspect Spain would do the same.

Re: Health care in Spain
The healthcare agreement for O.A.Ps isnt an E.U "thing" its a seperate agreement so in theory it shouldnt be effected but in reality if it all goes bleeps up who knows.although now there is the new royal decree declaring free healthcare for all.but that is in the early stages and is a total minefield at the mo interms of applying for and getting it.
Personally if you can i would move over before the end of the (whatever its called) in the next couple of years.

Thanks elusive for your comments, the plan would be to move to Spain early next year, spring time!
Re: Health care in Spain
I would move before Brexit day. End March.
Spain may use that day as a cut off for something.

Re: Health care in Spain
At least there's now a healthcare bill to look at health care for Brits "on holiday, working or retiring abroad" after Brexit that "will help by safeguarding reciprocal healthcare if there is no EU deal". (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new- ... ent=weekly)
The only thing is, this only seems to talk about the EHIC, which is not really relevant for those working or retiring, is it?

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

If you look further into it it also covers the S1 procedure. If you are working you are covered under the Spanish system anyway.

It now looks like you can get the healthcare even if you are early retired and you don't have to get private health insurance for residencies.
Re: Health care in Spain
Its all very hit and miss at the moment depending on where you live.by the time it becomes the "norm" there will be a gen election and it will prob change again.

Re: Health care in Spain
Health care in Spain is free for anyone living OR visiting due to the laws passed recently by the new Spanish government, all you have to do is register at your local health centre !
Re: Health care in Spain
Thats always been the law. Its just the INSS were refusing to apply it and give you the documents needed to registar at your local healthcentre
