Michael and Vivien Harvey are established in a beautiful old Cortijo, the courtyard heart of an original horse ranch, set in a landscape of cork oaks and orange groves. They have developed a thriving nursery supplying a great and increasing range of plants and offer an excellent knowledge of the local gardens, landscape and Spain. Their own garden is an oasis of luxuriant colourful plants from all parts of the world thriving in an ideal climate, with a pool for guest use. Michael and Vivien are offering once again first-class accommodation in the Cortijo as a comfortable base for hosted garden tours.


Example of Hosted Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Gibraltar or Malaga airport where you will be met. Introduction to Cortijo el Papudo, with time to settle in and enjoy the garden and pool and champagne reception.

Day 2

Jardin la Concepcion

Morning visit to the Finca de la Concepcion which contains the remains of a formal garden with water features, pool, pergola and Roman ruins engulfed in a tropical jungle of exotic foliage and flowers with palms towering over. Then time for lunch on the seafront and a walk around tropical gardens in the centre of Malaga. El RetiroReturning to the Cortijo for dinner.

Day 3

A quieter day visiting the San Roque Suites gardens and Alcaidesa, a beach village with interesting planting, and in Gibraltar recently restored Alameda Gardens and possiby (official functions permitting) the Convent, the Governor of Gibraltar's residence and garden.

Day 4

Casa de Pilatos - General view

To Seville for the exquisite patio gardens of the C.15th Casa de Pilatos with luxuriantCasa de Pilatos - Statue planting and arcades, statuary, arbours and fountains, followed by a visit to the Jardines de las Reales Alcazares, with Renaissance gardens enclosed by walls and railings and a further, less formal area of rich, tropical planting. Carriage ride through the Maria Luisa gardens.

Day 5

In the morning a chance to visit the Papudo nurseries and by means of contrast, we visit the artisans market in Sotogrande followed by time for lunch at the Marina planted with an interesting range of Palms and a visit to two or more modern private gardens, featuring a vast range of temperate plants.

Day 6

Granada, and the Carmen de los Martires, a C.19th terraced garden on the slopes of the Alhambra, with water features, patio and parterre, planted with palms, orange trees and other exotic species. Time for lunch followed by the Alhambra, a Moorish palace with exceptional views of Granada and the Sierra Nevada beyond with the Patio de los Leones and the Patio de los Arrayanes, formal images of paradise in enclosed courtyards using water, paving, statuary and plants. The Generalife was the summer formal gardens of the summer palace of the Sultans, centred on the Patio de la Acequia.

Day 7

Ronda, visit the recently renovated garden of the Casa del Rey Moro and the Alameda del Tajo garden in the centre with panoramic views. we also visit the Casa de San Juan Bosco.

Day 8

Return to Gibraltar or Malaga airport for mid-day departures.
