Europe’s first desert course which was designed by Peter McEvoy in true Arizona style with about half the grass areas normally found on other courses. There is an abundance of cactus, springs, rocks, water hazards and dry river beds and while the terrain is fairly flat there are many sandstone outcrops.
It is not a particularly tough course, though it may look that way at first glance. From the circular tee at the1st, a Par 5, the view can be quite daunting and a long drive over barren land is needed to reach the fairway. The 5th has hidden obstacles in mid fairway, while the 7th has a gully crossing it half way along and a transverse stream before the green. A precision game is needed to the end, especially on the 18th where a lake hides behind the extra long green.
