Interview with Pro Golfer Sergio Garcia

28/10/2009

Sergio Garcia 29, is now in his 10th year as a professional golfer, his nickname "el niño", (the boy) still holds, even after a decade in the game. Sergio has spent much of his career in the top 10 Official World Golf Ranking.

This week Sergio Garcia ranked 9th in the world, is competing in the Volvo World Match Play Championship, held at Finca Cortesin, in the charming municipality of Casares. The course enjoys privileged views to the Mediterranean and a backdrop of the Sierra Bermeja mountain range. The meteorological conditions are near perfect for golf, with crystal clear visibility, a slight sea breeze, all day sunshine and highs of 26°C.

Andalucia.com caught up with Sergio Garcia at Finca Cortesin.

AC: Are we correct in saying that this is the first time you have played this course?
SG: Yes that's correct and I'm really looking forward to it, I think out of all the team only one or two players know this course.

AC: This year have you managed to escape the golf world to venture off on holiday? What was the destination?
SG: Destination, nowhere, I was too busy playing golf.

AC: What do you do to disconnect from golf?
SG: Playing other sports such as football and tennis. I really enjoy the movies, of course I love to spend time with my friends and family.

AC: The Volvo World Match Play play is a very important event on the golf calendar, do you feel that it will help Spain and in particular this area?
SG: A tournament of this magnitude can only help. I think the people around here are very excited about it, so are the players. Everybody is very, very thrilled.

AC: Finally, as we are from Andalucia.com we must ask, what is your favourite part of of Andalucia?
SG: Responds with a huge smile. It has to be the homeland of my mum, Almeria.
