Seville Province - Mairena del Aljarafe

The land around Mairena del Aljarafe was inhabited during the Roman era, but it was during the Muslim rule when it became an agricultural town. It’s also from that period where the town got its name, which in Arabic means “shepherds herd”. Later, the Christians and it during took control of the town, and it was whilst they were in power that the town became a producer of olives. In the 19th century, labourers began arriving in Mairena del Aljarafe and so during the 20th century, the town really started to lose its rural charm and grew to the size of a small city, each day becoming ever more populated.
