Malaga airport is undergoing major improvement works at the moment. A new terminal and larger multi storey car parks are presently being constructed and in time a new runway built to the east. At a result the access situation is very difficult, to say the least.
Parking is the greatest problem as the ground floor of P2 directly opposite the main terminal T2 has been handed over for hire car use and the outside areas of P2 have been excavated. P2 is almost always full and should be avoided.
P1 outside the old terminal is in use but is a tough hot 500m obstacle course if trying to get to or from the main terminal T2 will a luggage trolley.
Best parking options are either the enclosed P0 which is by the entrance roundabout near the San Miguel factory. From here take the 10min frequency free green shuttle bus.
Otherwise drive right down to P3, past the cargo terminal. P3 is free and does have security although it is more open. The free 15 minute frequency green shuttle bus provides an excellent service 24 hours a day. (Frequency 30min 01.00h to 06.00h). The bus is not designed for luggage but is not heavily loaded so this does not present a problem.
When dropping off friends you can use the terrace at departure level as before but parking is strictly enforced and you will be marshalled to stop in land and will have 20 seconds for passenger to get out so be ready for the scramble.
When collecting friends use one of the car parks mentioned above. Don’t even think of waiting outside the arrivals hall of T2 where the situation is chaotic to the point of amusement.
Private car parking with shuttle bus services are working well. If collecting or dropping off a hire car follow the companies instruction to the letter.
We recommend you allow a little extra time.
