Train Station and Train Service to and from MÁlaga Airport
By Brenda Padilla
The RENFE Train Station at Málaga Airport is ready and waiting to take passengers to and from the airport with trains leaving every half hour for Málaga and Fuengirola. As a tip to newcomers to the area, if you take the Fuengirola train, you can get off in Torremolinos or Benalmádena as well.
The train station is equipped with personnel to help you use the machines to buy your tickets. The longest route runs to Fuengirola at the 2011 price of 2,20€. This is a good thing to know, because according to staff at the train station, many a foreigner has pressed a button that says “Sobretasa” and ended up paying 7-8 € instead of the actual price. “Sobretasa” is the button to push only if you were caught without a train ticket and issued a fine by one of the conductors.
Where is the train station?
That’s a good question. It’s not hard to find, however, the signs pointing the way are rather, well, discreet, mainly due to their neutral colors. A tired passenger might not see the “RENFE” train station signs. RENFE operates all trains in Spain.
Just go outside the Terminal 3 arrivals area and then look across the road where you’ll see the station. To reach the train station via the zebra crossing, go to your left and you’ll find the way.
