50 km - 1/2 hour
Leave Huelva City centre to the west
and cross the new bridge over the River Odiel. After 6km turn left
on the H414. 9km on you will join the main N431.
If you have time take the coast road.
The beaches ere are some of the best examples of expansive golden
sands backed by sand dunes. Punta
Umbria is a well kept coastal resort at the mouth of the River
Odiel. El Rompido further
west overlooks an interesting sand spit.
Lepe
is the first town you meet. It does have a few interesting features
but is normally by passed by tourists.
Back to the coast La
Antilla is a small coastal resort village with a very family
atmosphere. Isla Cristina
is a more upmarket purpose build resort.
Ayamonte
is the Spanish border town. The car ferry to Portugal, which served
travellers for many years before the bridge, still runs from here.
If you have the time use it to cross the River Guadiana to San Antonio
in Portugal.
The N431 continues west and you will
cross over the River Guadiana on the modern suspension bridge. Hardly
noticing customs formalities you will now be in Portugal.
