Re: spam call

We get them too. We just ignore them.

I wish the authorities would do something about them. Not in the phone companies interest of course. Plus how do you differentiate between genuine marketing and rip offs like the microsoft scam.

Re: Harvesting green olives

Hi Ricasso, sorry I meant to do a follow up posting yesterday. First thing to add to Enrique’s post, do not worry about the “damn olive fly “damage. They are everywhere just part of nature. Even when sprayed , intensively farmed groves have damage. My guess on your variety is Alorena ( accent over t...

Re: Harvesting green olives

Down here in the Poniente, the Hoji Blanca variety is king. Rounder , a bit smaller than the Picaul. The few trailer loads here are green olives for processing for eating. Only a few trees are starting to turn from green to dark. Those earlier varieties will start being harvested here for oil produc...

Sid, they will be like the ones Mercadona sell at Xmas. Quite nice tasting and small enough to get in an oven too.

Re: Free range Turkeys

Try a traditional local butcher to order one. The sort of butcher that sells goat meat seasonally.

A word of caution. All the turkeys here are a large breed and dress out circa 17 or 18 kg. Our Spanish friends portion and process their whole birds.

Re: Vodafone 4G in Casa

How do you find download speeds at busy times? I am reluctant to move to a 3/4 G solution e.g. Movistar fusion rural as our current experience with SIM based internet is flaky. It maybe that SIM based internet products tied to a house have better contention ratios than mobile products. Anyone know?

Re: Phone and internet in campo

Movistar do an unlimited internet package using 4g/3g SIM based kit. Only for customers where there is no landline copper or fibre infrastructure. Do a search on Fusion radio internet. Last time I looked the internet was 15 euros a month on offer, normal price 46 euros. You have to have a landline w...

Re: Capital gains tax for OAPs house sale

Thanks Beachcomber. The residency and tax return elements isn't a problem. On my notional figures, a 23% tax would be 30 to 40k, Am I right in saying that there isn’t a tax bill if you invest some of the sale proceeds in a downsizing property as your main residence and keep the rest of the capital?

Capital gains tax for OAPs house sale

At some stage we will have to sell our campo home and move into a town as age creeps on. Am I right in thinking there will be no capital gains to pay if we are both OAPs at point of sale ? Is that Spanish retiring age? If so , what age would my partner need to be? She is currently working. We think ...

Carmona, Ecija and Osuna

We need to collect something from a village between these three towns. Rather than two journeys of three hours each way we are planning two nights and some sightseeing. We have been to Osuna a few times and Carmona back in the 80’s. Current choice of two of three hotels, Casa- palacIo de carmona, Do...

Re: Milky coffee

I'm pretty sure you're taking the pi55 here, Nescafe ? Nothing wrong with Nescafe . I too take a flask especially if going somewhere with no cafes around for hours. Just come back from the UK. My dad has some “ you must try this” Marks and Spencer coffee flavoured with toasted yak dung or similar.

Might be tied up with iplayer for radio app being phased out. UK IP users have been getting a message for a while now saying use this new app. I have downloaded it but not logged in to the new app yet.

Re: I'm now free to visit Spain again.

We got one earlier in the year in France. It was only tens of euros and just not worth the risk of being detained entering France on a future trip in the same vehicle.

Milky coffee

Anyone an expert on Andalucian coffee. Not talking the ghastly Costa offerings but the standard cafe con leche for around 1.20 . On our travels around Andalucia we find some variations in strength which I don't think is down to make of coffee used. Cumbal is nice. I even suspect sometimes when you a...

OAP subsidised holidays

Does anyone have any information about these holidays for pensioners please? Is it called Imerso?

Do you automatically get invites on reaching pensionable age or do you have to register?

Anyone been on one?

I am surprised that you haven't had any replies. Cannot help with Alcaudete but would say Iznajar has a charm. We took a visitor there last week. Plenty of photo opportunities. The pantano is pretty low. I prefer it fuller however some interesting photo opportunities for example former river bridges...
