Re: Pedants
I think that grammatically there should be a comma after the word "Admin" in your post Jool and the question mark is placed badly too

wildside: I do not agree with you. I think there should be a colon, not a comma after 'Admin'!

Re: Pedants
There should be a full stop after admin first of all thus showing it as an abbreviation , I'd have to agree that a comma should then follow

Re: Pedants
I'm not sure that you can have a full stop and a comma one after the other. If a full stop is used I think 'could' should start with a capital 'C'.
I also think there should be a comma before and after the word 'please'.

Re: Pedants
..but Beachy the full stop I refer to is not actually a full stop, it's to denote an abbreviation .........I feel certain you can use a comma after etc., can't you?

Re: Pedants
D.A., yes, you may well be right. I shall have to see if I can find a definitive answer in my Pedants' Almanac. I hope that apostrophe is in the right place. I think so because it is an Almanac for pedants generally, not just me.
Actually, Jool, I'm not sure if we need a special section for us here as we have our own web site:

Re: Pedants
I've a horrible feeling your apostrophe is not in the right place re. pedants. Pedants is pedants You would only use it the way you have if you were to say for example "The pendants' car has broken down", thus meaning a car a group of pedants were travelling in had expired.
Shame on you

Re: Pedants
Therefore it wouldn't be a case of being in the wrong place but that it shouldn't be there at all.
Anyway, what if I wanted to say, "My Pedants' Almanac is falling to pieces because it has been used so much"?

Sorry, I was editing my post when you replied.
I can see this thread ending up in the pedants' graveyard.

The position of your apostrophe in this example is also questionable
It reads to me that your almanac belongs to a group, or at least more than one pedant
Can you confirm the almanac is your own personal property or is it the property of others?

My wife also has a pendant - it's jet on a silver chain. I don't think she ues armagnac though - she prefers shiraz.

Re: Pedants
Admin., would you (please) create a special topic where pedantic members may argue over picky
little things to their heart’s content?
‘could’: Of course they ‘could’. The question is whether or not they
‘would’.
‘we’: I thought you wanted it for pedantic members.
‘please’: Although courteous, as placed, it is a clumsy interrupter.

If being correct (interpreted by you as "pedantry") annoys you, then don't read a thread clearly labelled as to its subject.
