Re: Pontevedra

Re: Pontevedra
I've been invited next April to visit Pontevedra by a colleague/business aquiantence to an oyster fair, free ride, it's one of his tax breaks to invite customers along with him, I'm just trying to get a feel for the place, we would be there four days.
Re: Pontevedra
We have been. Beautiful part of the country. While you are in the area go to Santiago.
Re: Pontevedra
I have been but it was decades ago, can't remember much except that the general area was nice. May as well go for it if it's a freebie
Re: Pontevedra
Pontevedra is in the Rias Baixas area of Galicia. You will find plenty to do in the area, a morning or afternoon in Pontevedra, visiting this historic city. As someone else suggests you should visit Santiago, just an hour from Pontevedra. Combarro and La Toja villages are within half an hour. If you enjoy walking and have good weather (weather in Galicia is very similar to UK), you can take a boat from Vigo to Rodas Island. At some times of the year there are boats from Cangas that take you to see the mussel farms and you can enjoy mussels onboard http://goo.gl/bfH9Dc.
Galicia is very different to the Mediterranean, do not expect menus in english (except Santiago). All tourist services are aimed mainly at the spanish.
I was there last summer, and found this article interesting: http://goo.gl/8gEc9f
I wouldn't miss the trip if I were you.

Re: Pontevedra
We went earlier this year and loved it there. The beaches are glorious white sand although it will possibly be cooler and possibly stormier up there on the west coast in April, but Pontevedra itself is a nice town to visit.
Galician is the main language spoken (similar to Portuguese) and the signs will often be in both Galician and Spanish, but we found the locals very friendly and they spoke very clear Spanish unlike the Andalus accent we have around here.

Re: Pontevedra
A lovely area- well worth the journey up there
Re: Pontevedra
Can highly recommend that part of Galicia and if you want some hassle free tourism, then Santiago de Compostela is only a short train ride away .... see route map -> http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/mediadist ... licia.html. Coruna's also a really nice chilled out city .... quite a slow pace of life there.
And the added bonus is that you're in the heartland of Albarino wine ..... if you prefer a red, then look for anything coming from the Ribiera Sacra area.
BTW, some great national parks nearby -> http://www.parquenacionalillasatlantica ... p?lang=gl#

Mike
