There are load of reja makers in the industrial estate at Alhaurin de la Torre. prices will depend on style, size and metal thickness...make sure you get a quote for hierro macizo ..no point in putting up rejas made out of hollow tubes.

Last year we had four window rejas and one for the door made to measure, in solid metal bars, some decorative work, integral lock on the door one, all primed, for 875 euros.

Rejas

Postby olive » Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:54 pm

Silver - Why regarding "hollow" Rejas? Is it lack of security? Or do they rust quickly?

I was going to do a post on this subject myself. Like most Brits my first thought was Ugh don't want to live in a prison/what happens if there is a fire etc. No Rejas equals nice unobstructed views. However after a while you realise that you see the views outside anyway and spend a lot of time outside. Having the windows open at night with rejas is a real plus for peace of mind.

Although we live in the Campo (spit - clear mouth) and I cannot see any evidence of crime it will arrive sooner rather than later be it other Brits, East Europeans or Spanish from the coast it makes sense to fit Rejas. Having removed a few whilst replacing windows, a 4x4 with a stout rope could have done the job or an 8 foot burglars crow bar so they are just a deterent rather than 100% proof.

rejas

Postby Julie » Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:09 pm

Hollow rejas are a lot easiar to enter by, a car jack will have them open in seconds or even a saw just a little longer. the solid ones if fitted in to the concrete surround of the wall, will afford much more security

i agree with the solid bar over hollow, but i will say that most rejas are fitted to hollow brick anyways, they aint worth the metal they are made from, i wouldn't worry too much about them.
