Holiday homes and Sevilliana

Postby luckyjim » Wed Aug 20, 2014 6:27 pm

Recently a friend of mine, who has a holiday home in the Axarquia, posed a question which I couldn't answer and wondered if anyone out there could help. He doesn't come out here on a regular basis, nor does he rent or let others use the house, but wonders if Sevilliana has some other tariff or plan which could help him. He does resent having to pay the standing charge and would be quite happy to pay slightly more for his usage. Any ideas anyone?

As far as I am aware there is simply a just a fixed monthly charge and you pay extra for electricity consumed.
Makes no difference whether the property is used or not.
There isn't a variable fixed monthly charge depending on how much electricity is used.
However the fixed monthly charge depends on the potencia, (max power that can be used) that you are contracted for.
So the monthly charge could be reduced by reducing the contracted potencia BUT you will find the power trips out frequently if you contract for too low a potencia.

Nicely put Gerry, I was about to write same...........thanks.

Depending what current potencia is.........and what electrical items you use, 3.3Kw is usable especially if you're only on holiday.

The quickest way to check potencia......look at the ICP fuse....to save you remembering the calculation from school use this calculator...........

http://www.rapidtables.com/calc/electri ... ulator.htm

So example 15Amp ICP ,220 volt supply,....... gives Potencia 3.3Kw

Ohm's law is something I've never forgotten from my college days. V=A over R

Our lecturer taught us to remember it as................

Further to my earlier reply.
If you were to going to get the potencia reduced to save a few euro a month then there could be a problem.
Sevilliana will probably require a current (pun intended) bolletin ( a certificate of electrical compliance/ safety) before they change the potencia.
If you don't have one then one will cost 300-400 Euro and might require work to be done to bring the installation up to current standards. This could cost a few thousand Euro.

From what Gerry has just pointed out I would let sleeping dogs lay.

Absolutely! Never rattle a cage unless you really have to.

If you drop the potencia by 3kw you will save about €6 a month - not worth the risk of incurring the charges that Gerry mentioned!

It cost me over €500 to increase my potencia and that was just the admin charges!

I was at Evillana a few weeks ago to ask about reducing the potencia in our unoccupied flat. They quoted €40 to get it reduced.

I suspect that to many people, your electricity supplier is very aptly named  :D
