Can anyone solve this piece of officialdom?

Postby biribiri » Sat Oct 18, 2014 12:06 pm

Can anyone please help in providing a link to an official Spanish government site with an explanation that ciudadanos de la unión europea no longer receive a residency id card with photo and that us Brits have never had one issued by our home country.
My bank sent a letter last week asking for copies of my id be sent to them via e-mail in order to identify myself under Ley 10/2010, de 28 de abril, de prevención del blanqueo de capitales y de la
financiación del terrorismo.

I sent a copies of my passport and the worthless green certificado registro de la unión europea and received this in reply.

Hemos revisado la documentación que nos remitió en su correo, y le informamos que su documentación no ha podido ser tramitada por el siguiente motivo:
Documento identificativo no válido
Por favor, envíe la documentación correcta a la dirección

When I asked what else they required I was told an ID card with photo. :x
No amount of me trying to explain will change their mind, I've searched the web and can find nothing official to shove in their nose, even some government pages still think we get the photo id card
Bangs head on wall ... again
Arghhhh!!!

It may be easier to change banks but i do enjoy a challenge

Some years back I took the ferry from Hong Kong down the Pearl river to a small Chinese town to inspect a factory.
The officer at passport control read my passport upside down.
On the basis that the bank doesn't know what it's looking at either I'd get something like those id cards that underage kids get to get bleep faced in the pub.
available via the internet for a small fee.

Don't know if this might help, but we had the relevant page of our passport turned into a tarjeta and laminated and use that as I D. Can't get more official than a passport. Also we have a copy of our original NIE registration and can also show this.

True, but a photocopy is next to useless if required for any official purpose. It is the easiest thing in the world to alter the details on a copy. If you are going to copy it, get it photoreduced and then certified as a valid copy by the notary or town hall.

Barclaycard Spain has been asking me for the same information for quite a few years now and until now I haven't bothered to give it to them. However, I have asked them to clarify what they actually require and have been told I should fax them a copy of my passport, which one day I will send.

Meanwhile, I would phone them and ask them again what is required and explain that the law requires us to use passports as ID.

Sorry El Cid should have said that that is what we had done. Worked for us. Sometimes use it in England as well.

Maybe it depends of whom you bank with.

I had something highlighted on my online banking account, and my wife had something in the post to our UK address ( joint account with La Caixa ), threatening all sorts of things if we did not prove whom we were ( the account had only been in place for six years ).

They accepted photocopies of our passports as an interim measure, sent through their "secure" website, but we had to attend the branch we use ( not where the account is domiciled ) with our passports when on holiday in September. Hopefully that is the end of it.

Well that law was published only seven years ago so I suppose you have to give them time to catch up!

It was correct to stand your ground. If you definitely know the law is on your side, you shouldn't give way.
I love the way the Spanish concede though.
They are more or less saying. We have looked at it again and have decided to allow you passport as ID.
When it should have read. We made an error and we would like to apologize for the inconvenience.
