Tobacco cheaper?

Postby jukim » Sun Feb 08, 2015 3:19 pm

Does anyone know if tobacco is cheaper at the Tabac shops locally or in the duty free at the airport? First time going back to the UK. Thanks.

Yes, significantly dearer in duty free. If you're flying from malaga there is a tobacconists near terminal 2 drop off point which, I think, charges normal prices. It has a good selection of English cigs but didn't have the spanish ones I wanted

I've been able to get my Spanish brand at the estanco opposite T2, and yes, same prices as most local estancos - I think they are govt controlled to some extent

Yes the prices are govt controlled
All the official prices are published here for both estancos and others (cig machines etc)

http://www.preciotabaco.com/precios-tabaco-cajetillas

Just for interest using the official figures on the site above
Out of every euro spent on a packet of cigs
0,08€ goes to the estanco
0,12€ goes to the makers
0,80€ goes to the state in IVA (0,18€) plus a special tax of (0,62€)

So the real tax free price of a pack of cigs costing between 4€-5€ should, in theory be around 80c-1€
