the local town council has put a notice at the front of my house explaining the restrictions. I went to the shop this morning and the police were already telling walkers and cyclists to go home. Fines up to 100 euros up to 1 year in prison for non-compliance.

Watching the BBC news this morning, people are talking as we were just a few days ago. Reports of these measure being put in place within weeks but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens within days.

Over in sunny Extremadura the town hall of my village has enforced the Government decree for everyone to stay at home unless they are buying food or medicines (etc). My OH and I are ensconced in the campo on the finca with the animals and it's a bit of a relief to have the next few weeks stretching ahead of us to get all those jobs done we have been meaning to do for years but socialising got in the way. The few British people in the area are doing the same — staying on their fincas and not going anywhere.

However, once the Government decided to close the universities in Madrid and then the bars, cafés and restaurants etc thousands of people from infected Madrid and Barcelona, etc, decided to move to the pueblos, the beach, the campo, wherever. Some people arrived in my village and instead of self-isolating for two weeks immediately went out and started to shop. There have been angry exchanges between local women and those from away about them coming to the village and buying up everything in sight.

The young people, in contrast, are staying in their homes, out of sight, until evening. Then they get in their cars and drive to a spot in the campo or go to the local charca where they socialise, drink a few beers, exchange a few body fluids and then go back to self-isolation during the day.

I can well imagine that when the first case of the virus happens in the village the mood will get ugly.

Don't worry though, for some reason hairdressers can stay open. I'm sure it's a good one but if anyone knows why, i''d ne interested to know.

Public health reasons. You know. Nits and things. Seems people cannot wash their hair at home, especially old ladies.

Yes I'm glad to be where I am and not stuck in a grim piso block somewhere. My Spanish neighbour kindly called by earlier and dropped off a huge bag of veg. With nothing better to do I have been skinning and roasting about 4kg of tomatoes I even cleaned the oven this morning .... now that it is sign that I am already bored

My OH on the other hand has decided to go for a solitary walk in the hills where he is unlikely to see another soul

I have a Dr's appointment next week so not sure if that will go ahead although I can't really wait until another 2 weeks to see her. I am running low on vital medicine so perhaps I need to phone beforehand to see if I can still attend.

Interestingly, for me, it mentions that pet food shops can open so I should be able to get the tablets that my dog needs when they come in next week.

One thing I wonder about is holidaymakers who are staying in bed & breakfast only hotels.
With restaurants etc being closed where can they get a meal?

Take aways/home delievery can open.some restaurants are now doing them aswell. Already had a flyer from a restaurant in the village that normally doesnt do delieveries offering the service

I shall pop out later to a chinese restaurant, in Rincon de la Vicrtoria, that usually does takeaways and see if they are open.

Why not phone first? I'm phoning the vets tomorrow to see if they are open and have what I need in stock as they'd sold out last week. Only then will I go out to them, although I do need fuel too as my petrol light is on. Of course last week there was no urgency in filling up!

No as its a Supermarket/Shop that sells food and that is clearly permitted under the decree which you yourself posted above. But hey don't let me stop you "popping to a Chinese Restaurant" if you feel that it comes under food shopping....think the Police may have a wholly different interpretation

Yes, this one has a eat-in restaurant, they do takeaway and they do home delivery but not to where I live in the campo.

maybe it's time we talked with our elderly locals/neighbours about what plants etc they foraged for/gathered from hillsides and mountains during to 'hungry years' ..
