The new FRS ship arrives tomorrow in the port of Algeciras to operate immediately on the Tarifa – Tangiers route.
The “Tánger Jet II” Hill be one of the fastest and largest catamarans that operates in the Straits.
Tarifa, 24th August 2007.- Tomorrow the “Tánger Jet II” the high speed catamaran owned by FRS will arrive in the port of Algeciras ready to operate in the Straits.
It has been an investment of 28 million euros for the company and will be one of the fastest and largest ferries of its type to navigate between Spain and Morocco.
Built in 2004 by the Australian shipbuilder ‘Austal’, it is 86,6 m by 23,8 m and can transport up to 800 passengers and 238 cars, cruising at a maximum speed of 45 knots.
“Our service in the straits of Gibraltar has evolved in satisfactorily since we began our operations in the year 2000”, declared Luís Mora, director general of FRS, with this acquisition , the company has increased its ability to offer a high quality service in the straits.
Actually FRS operates two high speed catamarans. In 2006 FRS transported more than 1.000.000 passengers and more than 200.000 vehicles.
The “Tánger Jet II”, the ex- “Spirit of Ontario I”, as it was previously named serviced Lake Ontario between Rochester (USA) and Toronto (Canada).
