Painting Advice

Postby telboy » Mon Jan 06, 2020 10:28 am

Just had a property reformed, I'm doing all the painting myself both exterior and interior.

Internal
All solid walls and ceilings are finished in plaster on top of mortar. Is it best to first apply a thin watered down 50/50 matt emulsion (misting coat) :?: I've been advised not to add PVA to the paint.

External
All external walls are finished with Capa Fina. Do I use external emulsion paint straight onto this without a water down first coat :?:

All advice welcome

cheers
terry

Read what it says on the paint container, or go to the manufactures website, and follow the advice given.

I would give the inside a coat of 70 30 mist then roller on another coat or 2. If you go into Pinturas Andalucia you will be able to buy a good commercial quality paint. They also give good advice.

Your reply does seem a bit rude Gerry in the season of good will.

I buy a good quality matt emulsion for both the indoor and out door walls, usually have to water it down just to get it to spread, i think costakids 70 30 is a good indicator. We applied 2 coats on new plaster.

Sorry if anybody thought my reply was rude but different manufacturers have different advice/ guide lines for use of their paint.
That is why I said what I did.
For example, TKROM recommend using their emulsion paint undiluted as a primer coat.
When repainting apply 2 coats, the first coat diluted 10%.

We can all type things that come out differently to how we meant Gerry. I wasnt having a pop at you, just pointing out. You give a lot of good advice on the forum.
