virus/browser hacker

Postby chrissiehope » Fri Feb 03, 2017 5:40 pm

I've just had a bit of a problem - clicked on a photo on Facebook & it brought up a 'Windows' page warning me there was a problem & telling me to call a freephone number. As it was asking for a password and wouldn't let me close the page I got my son to check the number on his tablet & sure enough it was some kind of scam. I used alt + F4 to close the page, but then everytime I tried to type, various windows would pop up (My Documents, etc). I then scanned the laptop with malwarebytes, ccleaner & avast, none of which found anything. Having now rebooted, it seems to have resolved itself, but I vaguely recall there was another program that was good for rooting out dodgy things, but I can't remember what it is called...

I think Enrique might have the answer

Itseems to be OK now - I think it was more a case of making your computer go 'funny' so you phone the number given & they then take control of your computer or get you to give them passwords etc ...

Hi linajeff,
You only need to use Adwcleaner if you pick up a Browser hijacker, normally shows up if your Browser start up doesn't go to your Default Home Page.
