I noticed that signal strength was down from 97% to 96% but signal quality is still hovering around 93% to 95%

Will not be this as I901 is not in place yet!
And when changing satellites, they dont stop transmissions totally. There is no loss in service. (although end users may see a loss if there is a change in frequencies and they do not use the new frequency)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

Found the problem...the cable to the box was damaged, replaced the cable, which has sorted the problem.

(I provide a bit more informtion on my blog : https://www.satandpcguy.com/2020/04/03/ ... -at-27-5w/ )

Did notice about a minute interruption in the signal yesterday afternoon.
Wheather was good so that shouldn't have caused an interruption.
Wondered whether or not if the signal had been switched?

It went like that during the news just after 7pm. We sat there thinking ... is this it?? But then it came back as normal again within a minute.

Thanks for the update. Good news. Last thing we needed was the t.v going off at this time! Probably just gone and said it now!

Here's an article by CNBC basically confirming what satandpcguy has already told us:

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/17/northro ... llite.html

What I found interesting was the statement that "MEV-1 will provide five years of life extension services to the satellite before returning IS-901 to an orbit for decommissioning. Then MEV-1 will be available to provide extension services for other satellites in orbit." So clearly the MEV has a lot of propellant on board.

Are we now safe to presume that the new Intelsat satellite will carry on working at least for the time being anyway ?
I need to buy a new receiver but I've put off doing it until I was sure the reception wasn't going to disappear.
Does anybody know if its possible to get a receiver that will also record ?
Thanks..

I think it's fair to assume that it will be operational for some time. The biggest risk is that the PSB broadcasters may decide that they don't need the backup service any more.

Almost all the receivers have an option to attach a USB disk which will record and allow pause/play. I use a Vue+ Zero which can set up with a 3 day EPG and you can use that to set up timed recordings on any number of channels at the same time.

Sorry Sid , I'm not very knowledgeable on this sort of thing.

A USB disk , presumably you don't mean a USB stick. ? and haven't a clue what Vue + zero is... Would it be possible to explain for dummies like me in more detail please.. Thanks

You can use a USB stick, but it will fill up very fast.

I suggest you read this previous thread for more information about the system. If you have any further questions, please post them in that thread.
