A conundrum!

Postby El Cid » Sat Apr 19, 2014 12:12 pm

We had a strange experience with my wife’s car recently.

On Thursday we drove into Almuñécar and all seemed OK until we reached the town. The first corner at slow speed caused some really bad tyre squeal. I stopped to check for a flat tyre, but they all looked OK. Next stop, squealing all the way, was the nearest garage. Tyre pressures were all OK, but a bit on the low side so I topped them up with a few psi extra in case there was a slow leak.

Drove home - squealing had gone.

Today, drove back into town. Same thing happened, as soon as we got into town and started cornering the squealing started again. Back to the garage - all pressures OK. Drove home and the squealing went away. I have now worked out what was causing the problem, and believe me it is not the most obvious reason.

Anyone like to have a guess?

Yes, it was the candle wax. I always avoid the town during Semana Santa so I had not seen it before. It's amazing how far it travels outside the town on the cars tyres.

Yes we have the same problem here, as we live on a corner it's been almost impossible at times to hear the tv above all the squealing. Hopefully the forecasted rain over the next couple of days will wash it away. :?:

"Drove home and the squealing went away."
You mean the squealing stopped once you left town not as you returned from the last shop that you visited. :eh:
Actually we were down town yesterday and the squealing was horrendous! :!:

And if it rains as forecast it will be like a skating rink. The positive is the Spanish know how to drive on treacherous roads. NOT!!!!

I see in the news that malaga have a new vehicle especially prepared for taking the wax off the roads after easter..unfortunatly it broke after 24 when it sucked up a manhole cover!
