Certificate of civil status
Certificate of civil status
WEll we thought we were nearly there with the pareja de hecho. However we are told that we need a certificate of civil status for one of us that has never been married or civilly partnered, and that her certified copy of a birth certificate was not enough...though she had it stamped at the legalisation office in Uk. Does anyone know if there is such a thing? Would a declaration at the notary be sufficient I wonder? We are annoyed as we have been to considerable trouble to get as far as this!
Re: Certificate of civil status
We now find that the Consulate has some provision for a certificate of some sort, but say as it's not acceptable in Andalucia or the Balearics, they won't do it. The local town hall suggest we go up to Granada and say we can't get it for the above reason. Likewise the consulate staff under pressure said that others had had similar problems but managed to get it done somehow.... IT really does seem like something that is supposed to make life easier is so complicated that we probably won't bother.
Re: Certificate of civil status
I'm in the process of doing this at the moment.
I am in Canarias, but the document for foreigners usually accepted is a Certificat de Coutume, which should be obtainable from your Embassy.

Re: Certificate of civil status
Well finally we seem to have turned a corner! Up to Granada where we encountered the very personable funcionaria who said that everybody has the same problems. However she knows it's possible to get a document from Uk and she in a very Spanish way, then phoned a woman who had just presented hers! I spoke to her and discovered the name is a No Trace Certificate available from The General registry Office. She said that they weren't prepared to do one for a Pareja de Hecho so she told them she wanted it to get married. She confirmed it was quite tricky to find the right dept but it was quite cheap. It does not need the apostille but does need an official translation. After we get this we have to lodge all the papers in the registry, then we should get it! Suddenly it felt like the clouds had parted.
So a search through the website for the GRO revealed in very small print, a phone number. After a brief confirmation and a fudged conversation about the reason, we were through to a real person who told us it would take 20 days and was FREE!!! So anxiously waiting for the post in a few weeks.
Success is in sight!
