Re: Forum members
We have no ties in the UK now and I have no plans to visit there again. I've lived abroad for half my adult life and here is home (or wherever we have lived .... I felt at home in France too). Due to Brexit we cannot easily move elsewhere now anyway as we'd have to go down the NLV route (I rather like Portugal). I recently met up with my step niece who I haven't seen for about 40 years and she suggested we apply for citizenship. She offered to help as she's a Spanish (and Catalan) interpreter, but I'm not sure what the advantages would be now for us. We still plan to move away from this house on the side of the mountain, and Fuerteventura is a favourite destination for now, but the type of house we want are few and far between. So things are still a bit up in the air, but we will have to stay within Spain .... somewhere.
Re: Forum members
Interesting topic.
I moved back to England almost 10 years ago to the day. I kept up my "Kn0wall's Awesome Almería" website for quite some time, but eventually lost touch and closed it down. I used to live in Arboleas near Albox in Almería, and once I left Spain, found it difficult to keep up with current regulations and facts. I still have a heart for Spain, always will, however almost 20 years was enough.
This forum has always been very well moderated, thanks to Sid and Beachcomer, in the main. Being strict is the only way to beat the trolls which love to infest forums. I really respect the people on this forum for the atmosphere and the excellent information content.
As Sid has said, forums are becoming a thing of the past. I am interested in politics and several forums have gone to the wall just lately.
I still look in here about once a fortnight, but there are only a few updated topics, so it's not an onerous task to keep up. A lot of friends I met in Spain have moved to the UK and/or died. I'm nearly 70 so it's what is expected really.

Thanks for that post, Knowal. It's nice to know that "old" members are still checking in on the diminishing number of us who are still here.

Cid, How many active member do we have who post or log in on a regular basis.
Re: Forum members
I find everything seems to be on Facebook, which I am not a member of. The few open public pages I come across do not look easy to follow. This format is so much better as everything is under titles and different subject types. As I've said before, I could not have coped without all the help I have had over the many years I've been on here.knowal wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 10:13 pm As Sid has said, forums are becoming a thing of the past. Likewise, Knowal, re the friends fading away. When we first came here everyone we met was at least 10 to 20 years older than us as we moved here when only 41/42 years old. It still is a similar situation with friends now in their 70s and 80s. People either die or move back to the UK, and we've lost most of our friends one way or another.

Re: Forum members
If views are anything to go by costakid then the title of this topic has attracted attention, people don't need to sign in to read the posts. Perhaps there could still be many members still out there who don't bother signing in and just come along to have a read with no interest to post or make a contribution, such a shame.Hope they are reading this!

Re: Forum members
You are correct, there are many views on all subjects but you don't need to be a member to read them. Looking at the members list there are about 30 members who have actually posted in the last two months or so and over the last 9 months about 90 have actually signed in (but not necessarily posted).

Well there’s always one isn’t there. It was because I kept getting locked out. Was also old song called Kkk Katy
Will be back in Almuñécar in Feb. Taken a liking to it.and lovely sea front hotel
Re: Forum members
Whilst I was 'locked out' I did still pop in every few days for a quick read, just nice to see some old faces, and yes I've met quite a few forum members over the years and some who aren't aware that I know who they are ...
I don't think that forums are finished ,however they do need to think about re-inventing their wheels in my opinion.
Making it easier to post pictures would be a good start, I'm quite involved on Facebook and comments with photos always get more hits...
And do I like Facebook, not really, but it's useful ,particularly for me to promote my little museum, 2024 we doubled the previous years visitor rate.
My museum is just a hobby, but I love being able to meet people and share knowledge, last year about 50-50 Spanish-International visitors. ( over 3000 visitors last year )
Must go now 15 schoolchildren arriving soon ,then we're off to play Bingo with the pensioners, yes I know ....we really know how to live.

Re: Forum members
I did mention posting photos here on another thread and there is some complicated way to do it involving a third-party platform. Really? In this day and age? Why? Never mind. I quite like the antiquated way the forum works and at least i can understand how to post and reply.

Re: Forum members
It's not complicated. It's the same with all the forums I have known—you have to use a separate site. All forums buy in the basic forum software, which doesn't normally have direct image posting options, and that's the way it is. If you feel the need to post images, then just make an effort to learn how to do it or just don't post images. If you want image-based social media, you have loads of options, Facebook, Instagram, etc. I'm sorry that I can't make it easier for you, but that's just the way it is.
