... another question. Sorry newbie here.
Does anyone have any experience of burning Eucalyptus wood? I have read mixed theories. As it's an oily wood, some say it creates a lot of creosote in the flue/chimney that, I'm told, is impossible to remove as opposed to regular creosote from burning traditional wood.
The thing is, I have a supply but don't want to clog up my flue with inflammable creosote!!
I ask because some say that as long as it's well seasoned, it's ok but others say - stay well clear! Just wondering if anyone has any experience of burning it themselves..
Thanks

Many years ago when I had my wood burner it was recommended if you wanted to burn eucalyptus then first make sure your chimney is clean and complete. Season the logs for a minimum of 2 years then hope ! Basically our log man was not in favour of it at all.

Re: Burning Eucalyptus
We use it mixed with olive and it's fine. Burns well.
Re: Burning Eucalyptus
Thank you both. I wondered if we could do that. Mix it with another wood.

Re: Burning Eucalyptus
We use almost exclusively eucalyptus in our wood burning stove. Never had any problems over the 10 years here.
I have heard that there is a difference between white eucalyptus and black eucalyptus, but couldn't tell you which we have around here ... it is grown industrially for celulose production and bio-mass pellets - if they are using it for pellets I can't see a problem for a wood burning stove ... perhaps others can advise on that

Re: Burning Eucalyptus
The Instruction book for my wood burner specifically excludes Eucalyptus as a wood to be burnt citing an explosion risk.

Re: Burning Eucalyptus
I certainly would not use eucalyptus wood before it has been cut for a couple of years. The oil needs to dry out before you burn the wood.

Thanks everyone. It seems that possibly the jury's out on this one. Maybe it's best to make sure it's well seasoned and then mix it with other wood when burning.
