Public doctor near Calahonda
Public doctor near Calahonda
Hi all, can anyone recommend a public doctor near Calahonda? I've recently moved here, have a European health card but don't know how the system works. Preferably an English speaking GP. I'm taking Spanish classes but am no where near proficient yet!
Re: Public doctor near Calahonda
I you are living here full time then you shouldn't be using a European health card.
These should only be you by tourists/ visitors.
Cheers

Hi Gerry, I was here for a couple of weeks in March and am back for four weeks now, so I'm not exactly full time, hopefully next year!

The EHIC only covers you for emergency/urgent treatment, not routine consultations, so you are better taking out travel insurance.

Thanks Peter, I wasn't aware of that.

You can see a GP with the EHIC in La Cala which is just a 5 min drive from Calahonda. They have interpreters too.

Thanks again Katy, is it where the pointer is on the map that opened when I clicked on the link?
Re: Public doctor near Calahonda
Hi Katy, I tried to find the doctors in La Cala, but the only one I found was InterKlinic, but it is a private practice.
Re: Public doctor near Calahonda
Just go to the local hospital. Most places dont have seperate surgeries like the uk. The drs work out of the local urgencia or ambulatorio

Most bigger villages and all towns have a Centro de Salud - a health centre

Don't know how you missed it, it is a largish centro de Salud on one of the main roads. Anyone you ask there will know it.brentles wrote:Hi Katy, I tried to find the doctors in La Cala, but the only one I found was InterKlinic, but it is a private practice.

No probs
Re: Public doctor near Calahonda
Hi all, I thought I'd got it all sorted, filled in the paperwork, photocopied my health card and passport and had an appointment earlier today. When I showed my prescription however, they have told me I need to get a full current medical report, from my doctor in Sweden, but in Spanish! Have any of you come up against this?
Re: Public doctor near Calahonda
Sorry perhaps I am missing something.
You said you were only here for 4 weeks so why didn't you bring sufficient medication with you?
I can perfectly understand why a Spanish doctor didn't give you a prescription for medication as prescribed by your Swedish doctor. If it happened to be a drug not available/ banned in Spain then he would want to know why your Swedish doctor had prescribed it.
The only way he would know this is by reading your Swedish doctor's report, obviously in Spanish as you couldn't expect him to be fluent in Swedish.
Cheers
