Dental Health for Children

As of 2001 children aged 6 to 15 gained the right to a free dental health programme. Health authorities started in 2001 by offering the service to a limited age group and then adding more users to the service each year. By 2007 the programme still only reached children aged 6 to 13 years old.

If your child is registered in the public health system then you should receive a letter with dental vouchers every year. These allow you to choose from a list of private dentists in your area that are cooperating with the public health system to provide very basic services such as checkups, fillings and possibly cleaning, extractions and some preventive repair work. One of the drawbacks in the system is that your child might have to wait many months to see one of the dentists on the approved list.
