P60s

Postby jonbar.1 » Fri May 24, 2024 9:13 am

We have lived in Spain for 10 years.
Our pensions are paid into our UK bank; and every month we transfer a fixed lump-sum to our Spanish bank for our subsistence.
We do,of course, pay taxes,on all of the income, to the Spanish system.
Every year we still get copies of our P60s sent to us by our pension providers.( showing,of course,no tax paid).
Is it still advisable for us to save these documents, as we did when we lived in the UK?

Hi jonbar.1,

The info on the web (tax consultants) say keep for 4 years, I'd keep for at least 6 years any "official" documents.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Cheers Enrique.
We always kept our P60s in tbe UK.I just thought that they would not be relevant in Spain.

No, they are not very relevant as they are not in line with the Spanish tax year. You are not obliged to submit any documentation with your tax declaration, just the total amount of your combined pensions. Anyway, HMRC sends all your earning details every year to the Spanish tax office.

 same here, and my cycling proficiency test

I do tend to keep all paperwork relating to anything that HMRC or Hacienda may possibly ask for. I have bank statements and so on going back more than 6 years just in case. I know it would be impossible to obtain it all again. My OH says that when we next move I will have to slim down my archives :(

I have my bank statements back 12 years.
Fortunately I download them every month; so they are all digital files.( no paper).
I can access them all in seconds via my mobile or laptop.
( nothing better to do ! )

My wife is the same, It actually drives me mad. She stores everything and what's worse she stores my stuff with the most recent at the bottom of the pile.
