W10: Full Scan

Postby jonbar.1 » Thu Jul 20, 2023 8:55 am

Based on the good advice from the forum, I have been using "Windows Defender" as my stand-alone antivirus.
Apart from the "Quick Scans" I also do a "Full Scan" every month.
This usually takes 3-4hours ( scanning around 1.6 million files).
After the scan, the dialogue box tells me the details of the successful scan.
Yesterday, during such a scan,( very close to the end @ 1.5million files) I accidentally clicked on "Cancel" (don't ask! )
Today I decided to do it again, not knowing if the previous scan had worked or not.
This time the scan lasted just 10mins scanning only 35,000 files!
The dialogue box after the scan said " No Current Threats : Last Scan Not Available"
Can anyone please tell me:
1) Why such a short scan with so few files?
2) Why did it not show the scan details
3) Did the above have anything to do with my cancelling the previous attempt very close to completion?
4) Will everything be Ok when I do next months full scan?
Sorry about all the questions! Answers to any of them would be helpful.
I have been Googling all morning for answers; not a glimmer!
Thankyou JB

Stop-Press...update.
Just found a better option than Google :)
"Microsoft online Chat"
Having typed in my question, I was chatting with an agent in 30 seconds!Problem sorted in 5mins.
Please note: this is certainly no substitute for getting help from the Forum, but very useful if it is a known Microsoft problem.
Cheers JB
