Many of the larger boats have permanent crew, but
there is a burgeoning market for part-timers, who offer their services
during the summer months only. In much the same way that maintenance
staff should come recommended, so should crew.
Owners are advised to take the advice of their local
chandler, their local yacht club or marina owners, in order to get
the best deal. It is particularly easy for would-be crew members
to enhance their experience with a large dash of bravado, so owners
should ensure they take references, or contact other local owners
berthed in the same port.
