Yes, having to use the Unlocator VPN. They usually sort it out pretty quickly

Hi Francis,

"very hit & miss for UK TV!"......in what way .....slow , buffering, unable to get cretain channels :?:

Mark uses it as a backup so probable dosen't get much use ........... a DNS sollution is going to be a better option over a VPN one.

Hi Enrque.
It was the DNS but on on ITV it would not work as it was geoblocked. I do use Nord VPN that works very well but I thought that I would try DNS as people say it is better but I will stick to my Nord VPN.
Thanks anyway for the advice.

I am having problems as well. BBC is OK but other channels are blocked. CH5 says I am trying to use a DNS or proxy which is not supported. I shall contact Smartproxydns.

Actually, I was wrong there, it is only CH5 that doesn't work and knows I'm using a proxy. ITV and CH4 work fine.

I have emailed Smartproxy re the problem.

22.57 Ch 4 dropped out. Most irritating.

Reset DNS and have got sound of the programme against a still of an advert. Had that the other day as well.

I received an email to say they've fixed the CH5 problem. Mine is working fine again now.

Smart DNS is good that way. I have been using Unlocator all week on my Firestick with no problems. If I do start to get any, I'll switch back to Smart DNS.

Hi Mark,

Do you use the smart dns part of the product or the VPN ? I find Nord VPN works but slows the speed down dramatically.

Smartdnsproxy working tonight….

I rarely ever have problems with the smartproxydns. I thought it was just me as CH5 on the TV stopped working some time ago which is why I bought the Firestick. In the end, it was only CH5 that was geoblocked.

I only use the DNS, although I have the VPN set up if I need it, but the one time I tried it it did slow things down. The DNS is set up in the router so not sure if that makes it work better? I want to try taking the Firestick on holiday so wondered how well the DNS will work if I set it up in that? Has anyone else taken theirs away to use in a holiday home?

I mostly use the DNS part of the product because we are told that the signal strength is unaffected while a VPN can slow it down.

I have the Unlocator VPN installed on my iPad and IPhone as well as the Firestick, i tend to use that one over the SmartDNS, which also has one.
Certain apps such as my banking app do not like a VPN or. DNS . At home it’s not really a problem but with 4 and 5g, it’s is fiddly changing it so I use the VPN.
BBC radio requires a VPN to listen to sport in the car. I don’t get any issues with buffering but that might be more to do with the signal. It could well be different if I was in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for the reply.

We found ( find) VPN glitch free and use it when we stay away ( always assuming we can get at the back of the wall TV ) and there is a power socket handy even with the exten cable we always carry in the car!

I am leaning towards continuing with what we have got. A second smart dns would add yet another level of complexity to something which already involves numerous handsets and clicks. We will change if the current problems continue

Roll on moving to civilisation with fibre internet…….. we are planning on a “ whats available” trip to left of Santander in May.

I'm presuming olive means west, technically speaking.

Is that for a house move olive, or just a stay?
