ITV Query

Postby Parilla » Tue Mar 18, 2014 12:51 pm

My neighbour has a Seat, registered new in December 2010. He bought it 6 months old, from a Seat dealer, the previous owner being a car hire company.

He has just taken it into another Seat dealer for some minor repair, and been told by them that the car should have had its first ITV, after 2 years, not 4 years. This is because it had once been owned by a car hire company.

True, or another load of old cobblers ?

A few years ago the same happened to me. I bought a Renault which had been a demo model and apparently because the garage had owned it I did have to do the ITV earlier than if I had bought it new, as I was the second owner.

It was probably registered as a commercial vehicle which is why the rules are different. It also sometimes applies to cars like the Kangoo and Berlingo which are based on vans.

It may be of interest to some , that if you buy a new Berlingo-type vehicle, you can get the details changed from "mixta" to "turismo". Doing this will let you have the first ITV after 4 years. Your garage can do this for you.

Interesting to see what category it is registered as.

And further to Mowser's post if you don't do that then after 10 years its every 6 months

Thanks for the replies, seems it could be true - you live and learn. The car is a Seat Exeo by the way.

Yes it is true.
I had to test a car at the ITV and change it to a personal ownership. The ITV station did it for me on the first test.

So my neighbour has been driving around for more than a year in a car which he didn't think needed an ITV, when in fact it did need an ITV. Criminal,

When we moved here permanently in 2004, I also bought a 6 month old ex car hire Seat, and didn't have the fist ITV until 2008. Another criminal.

How the hell are we supposed to know.

Hi Parilla,
Look in the PERMISO DE CIRCULACIÓN...............

Section D.3 Denominación comercial

Would be interesting to see what entry you have there if any...........

Is the PERMISO DE CIRCULACIÓN the only document you get with a new/second hand car that's under age for ITV.... :?:

How did the Garage know it needed a ITV before the normal schedule for that type of vehicle... :?:

Hi Enrique

Can't say what was on the Permiso for our first car, don't have the papers any longer as we traded it in 2 years ago. Have looked at the Permiso for the current car just out of interest, and in D3 it just states the model, ie "Ibiza" which doesn't seem to help much.

My neighbour's now back in the UK for 10 days so can't ask him for any more info 'til he returns.

If you are running a garage you'd need to know everything. A rental vehicle is in a class of it's own. itv after 2 years, then really needs to be changed to turismo /particular as well.
A garage would also know that a commercial vehicle, cerrado & without windows (furgon) is limited to the same speeds as articulated lorries, whereas the identical vehicle with windows , mixto-adaptable,(furgoneta) has the same speed limits as turismo.
The whole lot is mind bogglingly complicated . The are actually multiple denominations within each group , especially in the commercial/furgon/furgoneta & motorhome groups.
Todos somos Lorca.

True.

I bought a used seat leon in December 2008. The car was 1st registered as new in November 2006 so it was just over 2yrs old when I got it. I was under the impression that the 1st ITV test would be due November 2010. However within 2 days of owning the car I received a phone call from the dealer telling me I needed take the car to the testing station for its 1st ITV test. When I queried this he told me that as the car was previously owned by a hire company the test was due after 2 yrs.
At least the dealer reimbursed me the fee.

Interesting.

I am interested in buying a 2011 Peugeot Partner. Not for commercial use, just as a family vehicle. It was my understanding that the vehicle will need an ITV every 2 years up the the age of ten years (which is fine) and then every year thereafter, but is there a chance it could need an ITV every six months at ten years due to being classed as a "mixto Adapt" on the Ficha Technical?

The Ficha Tech shows;

Yes, ITV requirements for these vehicles are different.

Up to two years - Exempt
2 to 6 years - every two years
6 to 10 years - annually
Over 10 years - Every six months

http://www.veiasa.es/itv/cuando_pasar_la_itv

You may be able to change it to 'turismo'. Ask at the ITV centre.

http://itvcitaprevia.es/pasar-vehiculo-mixto-a-turismo/

Or it may be better just to look for one that is already registered as 'turismo'.

Many thanks Beachcomber - that is as I thought, but when I go to the link you supplied the only category I could possibly select would be "private vehicles (cars and vans)" which shows a yearly ITV after ten years? No other category would seem to fit?

Hi MartinEB,
I have a Kangoo............mixto adaptable ....over 10 years old ...every 6 months

And as per Beachcombe's post..........so on your soon to be 2011 you're every two years.

Are you going to keep it past 10years.........?

Get them to put it on Turismo as part of the "deal".............

It is the seventh category down the page between the coach and the articulated lorry:

Vehículos y conjuntos de vehículos dedicados al transporte de mercancías o cosas de Masa Máxima Autorizada menor o igual a 3.500 kg.
