Can somebody who has been to a first communion party here advise me as to what gift is usually given ?
We haven't been to one before and are unsure what is the norm at these celebrations.
Communion party etiquette ?
Re: Communion party etiquette ?
You can buy stuff in those religious shops. Above everything a gift of money is appreciated

Re: Communion party etiquette ?
Hi,
For a communion present I would avoid religious presents (eg. childrens bible, communion dolls) as these are usually well covered. Money is sometimes given by the family. Avoid toys. I would suggest a nice reference book (animal / earth / space / people).

How about a Spanish translation of 'On the Origin of Species'.
That is an attempt at a joke, please don't take it seriously.

The one we went to last year (under protest),it was for a little girl. OH fetched a nice little chain with (I forget the name of it) red crystal on it, it was only a few quid in England..........girl was made up with it.
It was funny though seeing some of the presents the other English brought along...........one woman brought a home made steak and guinness pie........I thought the kid was going to chuck it at her, another woman bought her "ker-plunk"

Re: Communion party etiquette ?
Thanks a lot everyone.
I wasn't at all sure whether it was toys or religious things but if I were this young boy, I think money would be great, then he can buy what HE likes. If you say that is acceptable, we shall opt for that.
I am afraid I have lost touch with the things kids of his age like and hate.
Don't think he'd like my homemade chicken pie either
Beachcomber, that was funny
don't think I would be at all popular, do you ? !

At the last one we went to I remember a school rucksack, money, football shirt, bicycle pump amongst other things. we gave him a Betis FC watch. Seems anything you would buy for a birthday present will be good.

My neighbor's Son has a confirmation in May. They seem to be organized like weddings! Cost of meal is 85 euro per head. He has been having to go to church several evenings a week to prepare, last thing he needs when he is struggling with his normal schoolwork
Load of balony

Re: Communion party etiquette ?
As far as I am aware, money is the norm. You can buy special money envelopes for the occasion.
Re: Communion party etiquette ?
I have just been to take some photos of a Spanish friends property in Frigiliana, and whilst there they showed us all the kit for the son's do next month, plus all the new dresses, shoes etc for his sister, mother etc. The boy's suit alone must have cost a fortune, and mother seemed a bit put out when I asked did they hire them.(like we hire wedding gear) Noooo! All Dad got was a new tie, so nothing new there then!katy wrote:My neighbor's Son has a confirmation in May. They seem to be organized like weddings! Cost of meal is 85 euro per head. We've got 3 coming up in our family.
Unless you're the parent,when a keepsake is appropriate..good jewellery,watch etc,then money is the norm.
