I'm assuming it has to do with the heat.

I'm a runner/cyclist, so I'm very much aware of my fluid and nutrient intakes, and I've found I need to drink a lot more water since I've been here than I did in the UK. The more water you drink, the lower your body's salt levels become, so the more salt you need to consume to replace them. Often people in hot climates will drink lots of water, but still get headaches that they think are due to dehydration, and drink more water, making the situation worse, when all they need to do is eat a salty snack and the headcahe will probably go.

This isn't something that would affect the vast majority of people, but runners who are covering long distances in hot climates can be at risk of collapse and even death from low salt levels caused by drinking too much water and not replacing salt lost through sweat.

I think it is related to heat yes, I drink much more liquid, tend to have Iso and the like but also upped the salt intake, it cured the cramps.

Nah! They're all too busy watching the soaps, dancing and jungle programmes! ;-)
I did a couple of years in the Middle East when I was in the Forces, and we were issued with salt tablets, so it must be necessary.
