Even La Linea has it's nice bits, Gibraltar at the end of the road for tea bags, real steak and Fortnum and Mason goodies

I jest, LA Linea centre isn't bad. Has improved a lot over the years.

There is no best town., but you can't go far wrong with Yunquera, check it out and give it a look...on the road from Coin to Ronda A366 in the heart of the beautiful Sierra de las Nieves, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, 50 min scenic drive from both Marbella and Malaga airport.
Whether you believe you can, or whether you believe you can't, you are absolutely right.

Yunquera could be worth a trip as we are staying close by in Carratraca in May, thanks for the tip.

Watch the video which follows the provided link. It was filmed last year.
Much more fun before the path was restored.

Not long before you can try it - with or without dogs!

Not sure if anyone else's town will be yours, so advise you visit as many as you can. We are still not certain after a few years of visits, so now renting in Periana in the North of the Axarquia. We now know we prefer mountains to the coast as an outlook and are hoping to narrow the search to one of the villages in this area over the next few months or will continue to rent.

It certainly is cold in the evenings here but we have been able to have at least one meal outdoors almost every day for the last month. We can walk into town in about 20 mins but a car is essential up here. There is most of what we want in the village with supermercados and other general stores 9in fact we got our internet and phones sorted through a small local shop after being messed about in the main stores in Velez). There are a number of other villages to visit within 20 mins, so plenty of different restaurants and bars to try, before we even get into looking at the history and other sites yup here. There are a few english living here but no sign of a full english being pushed and we are trying to build up the Spanish by talking to as many local people as we can. Luckily the good people in the bank have good english.

My advice would be not to try and find a final destination too quickly and enjoy the adventure of the search.

Pete

Thanks, sound advice I think. This year we are in the area for around 6 or 7 different trips so no rush and lots of oportunity to check out different areas. I suppose it´s just human nature to have evrything done and dusted in one go but I am quickly coming around to the fact that the first place we rent may not be the last one. I just hate moving home!!!
