I did it last year but cant remember the link I used for the process.

First I had to choose a name and then confirm no-one else had it, i think was via the mercantile register web site, pay online and results come through post about a week later. Then had to deposit 3,005 euros in a separate bank account and provide a certificate to say it was blocked in that account.

What followed were umpteen trips to hacienda with completed forms, a trip to the Notary for the escritura, I did copy a friends so dont know if they have models to copy. I dont think I paid much at all maybe a little tax but plus Notary fee but in all less than 200 euros I am sure. Hopefully someone else knows a link to instructions.

I think there is a new mini SL where the capital is 900 euros but dont know how restrictive that is.

The capital for initial company setup can be in the form of a company asset such as a car.

You define your business activities 'Objeto social' on setup - make these as comprehensive as possible to avoid a further visit to the vultures in later years (as I've just had to do) - as far as I'm aware you can put more or less what you want (the categories are pre-defined) so don't skimp.
Do you need the SL? - if you are a sole trader then the Autonomo route is much cheaper although without the liability protection.

Maybe things have changed but I recall that the taxes you will need to pay add up to over 1000€ - that's for the Actos Juridicos, Notary fees, Registro Mercantil etc

Hi thanks, that's really helpful, had a look at the mercantile register but it appears that you have to register with them to do an internet search to find out if you company name is available .... will have a closer look at the site later tonight

It might be worth you while a visit to your local town hall... sometimes you can get free help to set up a company.

Just remembered an office has opened up in Marbella to assist people who want to invest or start up businesses. Not a crank place either, its funded by the Junta and the European Union.
