Hi all,
i have only been going to the Costa Del Sol for a couple of years so could some of you old hands give an "honest opinion" of how mass tourism and mass immigration has affected the region??
do you think the Spaniards welcome all incomers with open arms?
obviously the financial benefits have been massive but do you think the destuction of places like Fuengirola and torremolinos have been worth it for Spain?
How do you see the future of the region? is it al rosey or do you see similar problems to those experienced in the UK?

Funnily enough Katy I reckon the Spanish would welcome a Brit bar in a small pueblo and use it....................I think the moaning would come from the local miserable be-sandled Brit whilst he's hogging a table for four on his own at said bar with Daily Mail and one small coffee for four hours and during rush hour

A british bar opened in a white pueblo near Antequera - She was English, he Finnish - the first thing they did was get rid of the parma hams because she said they were "disgusting" and the few tapas they had on offer were not appetising. Pie and chips, fish and chips, steak and kidney pie etc and Sunday roasts were on the menu. The Spanish went there out of curiousity for a drink but were not impressed (lack of hot tapas). The dog used to sit in the bar and she thought she was running the Rovers Return and used to sit at a table and read her book and smoke fags most of the time. Result - they didnt make it and had to close - within 6 months.
There are a few Brit Bars in Mollina - a place that has been spoilt by the influx of Brits. Spanish friends tell us it is quite entertaining to go to the English bars - one in particular - the regular entertainment is the tremendous arguing that goes on between the couple that run it. The Spanish think it is quite humorous. At least they realised they had to offer good tapas and employed a Spanish lady a couple of hours a day to do just that.

I used to be indecisive but now I´m not so sure.
