Paint for wood burning fire

Postby marchamona » Sun Aug 28, 2011 8:34 am

My neighbour has offered me a wood burning stove/fire, but in need of a repaint as it's quite badly rusted.

Any names/brands of paint recommended please.

Thank you

Hi, we use either Hotspot or Stovax, this stuff is superb and revives the stove to "as new". If you have any contacts in the uk coming across then any marine/canal boat chandlery sells one or the other..........priced between 6-10 quid. We've a tin of Hotspot here we bought a few years ago......price on it says £6.99

... or alternatively you can get the paint from any of the fire specialists in either spray or liquid forms. Black, Anthracite, grey or silver

eh

just go to the ferreteria, look at all the paints.. and pick up a tin with a picture of a fireplace on it? or even.. ask for it? "pintura por el chimenea, porfavor?"

will be under 10€ / half litre.

Very good.....but that won't give me an opinion as to which is the best or if it actually works properly.
By asking on this site first I will have a few ideas and some recommendations.....

Thanks for all the replies

The stuff i used on a few occations is,
Stovax ThermoLac brush-on stove paint (matt finish heat resistant paint)
It comes in 200 ml tins and will easily cover your stove and probably more than once as it reall spreads very thinly and dries to make the stove look like new. There is absolutely no problem only for the first few times you use the stove you will need to leave a few windows open as there is a toxic burn off smell like you can get in any new stove.

Hope this helps

Where did you buy the paint Carrocrin? We have tried a few different types, sorry, can't remember the names, both paint on and spray, all useless!!

I have the tin a couple of years and i bought in UK and cannot remember where only that it was in a stove suppliers shop. If you google "Stovax ThermoLac brush-on stove paint" you will see that this product is available on Amazon.co.uk and i'm sure you can get it through there.

Hope this helps

but the problem is...you cant get the brands that are being recommended here in Spain. they only have what their suppliers get them.

im thinking more that the ferreteria will only have one or maybe two types in stock anyways.

perhaps somewhere like AKI in fuengerola would have more varieties, but then the staff there wouldnt be able to recomend any because they dont use the products.

i think you are going to be left to pick one and try it out. if it doesnt work, try a different one.
