Oranges in Andalucia

One of the first things you may notice when shopping for food in Andalucia is how fresh and affordable the fresh produce is. Oranges are a special treat with fresh crops supplying supermarkets and shops throughout the late fall, winter and early spring seasons. This is the perfect way to get your Vitamin C, fresh off the tree.

Hotels - Star rating

In Andalucia, the hotel star-rating system is overseen by the Consejeria de Turismo (actually Consejería de Turismo, Regeneración, Justicia y Administración Local ) of the Junta de Andalucia (regional government's Ministry of Tourism and Sport). A new hotel star rating system was published in May 2020 (Decree 13/2020 and 14/2021), long overdue since it had remained largely unchanged since 1984.

Nightlife

There is no shortage of places to go in the evening. Hotel cocktail bars offer comfortable and sophisticated surroundings for a quiet drink or not so quiet, jazz performance or other live band. For a more informal evening, almost every street in town has wine bars and lively cosmopolitan pubs. Later you might dance into the small hours at one of Gibraltar's trendy disco pubs or enjoy a flutter at the Casino.

It was built between 1573 and 1577 by Gabriel Ruiz Tahuste, together with the carpenters Gabriel Halcón, Juan Alonso Quevedo and Francisco Martínez.

Family Rural Holiday Rentals

Andalucia has much to offer in the way of rural tourism. The striking landscapes of its natural parks occupy 17% of the region´s land, and even outside these protected areas, vast expanses of unspoilt mountains, forests and rivers make for a wonderful exploratory visit. For families, this can be an ideal getaway, and a more active alternative to a beach holiday.

Cordoba Wines

Montilla-Moriles, located in the south of the Andalucian province of Córdoba, is one of the historical wine regions of Spain. The wine here has certain similarities with the Sherry of Jerez, but usually has suffered from the comparison.

Capilla Casa de las Monjas

Ensalada de pimientos asados

Roast the red peppers: wash and dry well, and poke once with a fork. Place in an oiled shallow baking dish and bake, uncovered, at medium high for an hour or so, until the peppers are very tender when pierced with a fork. This is best done early in the day or the day before, but if you have a microwave you can speed up the process (though best flavour is acquired in the oven or over hot coals, if you have them).

Castillo El Castellón

There are certain confusions whether this castle was linked to Vélez Blanco or Rubio, since the Arab authors cite only, Vélez. In the tenth century it was certainly inhabited and there are descriptions of it the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
