Getting there

Antequera Cuidad station is the old train station just to the north of the town at the end if the aptly named Avenida Estacion. From here there were regional trains on the following route until the line was closed in 2013 for the construction of the AVE from Antequera to Granada. It may reopen in 2019.

Sports in Antequera

Among the most popular sporting activities in the Antequera region are horse riding, trekking and golf. Also, inside the city there are numerous opportunies to join organized sport activities and teams. Festivals in Antequera

These are the main annual festivals celebrated in Antequera: Semana Santa, Señor de la Salud y de las Aguas, Spring Fair, Royal Fair of August and Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.

Lobo Park

In this wildlife park near Antequera, you can see four different species of wolves, including the native Iberian wolf, in a semi-natural habitat. You're taken on a guided walk through the beautiful landscape, while the guide explains these majestic wild beasts. The walk includes stops at observation platforms, where you can come into close contact with the wolves. Feeding time is fascinating, as always with animals; there are also night tours ("Howl Nights"), where you can hear the wolf packs howling along with their keeper.

Markets in Sotogrande

The 'Mercardo Historico de Sotogrande' (Historical Market Sotogrande) the up-market antiques and craft market takes place every Sunday morning at the Ribiera del Marlin near Sotogrande Marina. This is the one that was located by the yacht club for many years.

Villanueva de Algaida

This little Málaga town is the birth place of a prestigious international sculptor, the man behind Spain’s famous Goya Awards (the Spanish “Oscars”) statues, and that is Miguel Ortiz Berrocal. He died at the age of 73 years old in the place of his birth after returning home from Verona Italy in 2002. Today on Calle Granada we can visit his home. Some of his work is also on display at the Asociación de Amigos de Berrocal (Friends of Berrocal Association) in the town.

Cañete la Real

The hilltop town of Cañete la Real, located in the northern part of the Serrania de Ronda is an ideal destination for enjoying nature, but also great for seeing monuments and heritage. The area around the town is dominated by the Sierra del Padrasto, and sits in a valley of the river Guadalteba, which flows into the mighty Guadalhorce.

Beach at La Reserva Club Sotogrande

Located in the La Reserva area of Sotogrande Alta near the La Reserva Golf Club House,  the Beach Club  features a unique artificial 2.800 m2 beach and  sandy based artificial lagoon,  combined with a 17.000 m2 water-sports lagoon set in a natural hollow in Sotogrande hillside.

Cuevas Bajas

The village of Cuevas Bajas, whose name comes from several caves located on its outskirts, is located in a small valley on the banks of the River Genal. Its most important monument is the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, situated in the town square. The church was built in the 18th century and has an impressive facade, a small pediment and a square bell tower complete with clock.

Just outside Antequera you can visit three 5,000-year-old dolmens: Menga Dolmen (the largest in Europe) and Viera Dolmen, which are both located just outside the town, while El Romeral Dolmen is a few km away. These three prehistoric burial chambers represent some of the largest and most complete megalithic structures in Europe.
