Conjunto Enclave de la Mezquita

Conjunto Enclave de la Mezquita

The La Mezquita settlement is located at the top of a 1,200-metre hill, where the Trevélez River meets its tributary, El Chorreón. It dominates the surrounding area. On its eastern slope, a system of paths (escarihuelas) provides access to the Conjuro mines, the river mill and the other side of the valley. These paths overcome the area's slopes until reaching the remains of the Baños de Panjuila. This agricultural settlement dates back to the early medieval period and possibly contains burial sites. Today, it comprises some structures and features, such as a house and various livestock enclosures, as well as other remains of constructions and areas of human activity from various historical periods. It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2007.

In the Notáez area of the village, there is a perfectly preserved chapel built over an old mosque, offering amazing views of the Granada mountain range. Vehicles are not permitted here in order to preserve the beauty of the surrounding gardens.
