Cabo de Plata festival, Barbate - no 2025 edition
Contemporary music and dance festivals in Andalucia
This successful festival has an 'all-are-going-on-a-summer-holiday' atmosphere that attracts a younger audience to the offbeat Costa de la Luz fishing town of Barbate. The 2024 edition took place a month earlier than usual, perhaps to avoid the peak holiday season for this coastal town. We are not aware of any announcements regarding the 2025 festival. The website still features information about the 2024 edition.
There have been no announcements or media reports regarding the 2025 festival. However, the organisers have confirmed to us that there will be no 2025 edition, but have not explained why nor confirmed anything about a 2026 edition.
First edition of Cabo de Plata festival, Barbate was 2016 with thousands attending this festival in the fishing town of Barbate on the Cadiz coast. More than 60 artists entertained with a mix of reggae, flamenco fusion, rock, and hip hop - Triana and Chambao were two of the acts.
A one off smaller version was also held later in the first year on 4 October 2016.
2019 Edition
On the final day, the Caboplateros were treated to some fantastic concerts, such as that of JUANITO MAKANDÉ, who put on a brilliant performance with his usual array of emotions; LA PEGATINA, which was one of the most well-attended shows, with its spectacular travelling party bursting with rhythm; the pop-folk elegance of LA M.O.D.A; the female trap of BAD GYAL, and the rappers of the moment, the number ones NATOS and WAOR – the uncensored duo and chart-toppers across all music platforms – who stole the show. And to round off the festival, a particularly eagerly awaited and entertaining show was that of LOCOPLAYA, with Don Patricio and Bejo leading the charge on the Idealista Stage; a true Granada whirlwind if ever there was one, ESKORZO on the Desperados Stage; and an exclusive drum & bass set with the Australian-British PENDULUM DJ SET on the Brugal Stage.
On Friday, dressed as a bride, EL CANIJO DE JEREZ burst onto the stage with his usual infectious energy and those catchy, neighbourhood-style songs that everyone loves. RAYDEN did the same on the Idealista Stage, which drew crowds all night long, reaching its peak with trap performances by KAYDY CAIN and MAIKEL DELACALLE, alongside RAYDEN’s own set. Around one in the morning, it was time for some proper protest rock, the kind that has already set a precedent, courtesy of Madrid’s BOIKOT, who were on top form and drew in thousands of festival-goers who stuck it out to then hear the overwhelming power of Granada’s HORA ZULÚ. The stars of the night were none other than them: the most romantic Cuban rap trio, who have been part of the upbringing of several generations and whose songs are still sung by today’s youth. ORISHAS are back and couldn’t have done it better; their return to Spain was at CABO DE PLATA with a spectacular live set featuring tracks such as “Sastre de tu amor”, “Nací Orishas” and “A lo cubano”.
The early hours of the morning belonged to the heartfelt rhymes of RAPSUSKLEI, the versatility of the rapper from Granada’s northern industrial estate, MAKA, and one of the most acclaimed performances, that of rapper FOYONE, who is well on his way ‘for president’. The night drew to a close just after 5.30 am with the Dutch act YELLOW CLAW, one of Europe’s leading lights in electronic dance music.
Thursday started with a fierce, female-led vibe courtesy of MACHETE EN BOCA and the boisterous sounds of LA REGADERA. A little later, the soulful tunes of MUERDO rang out whilst the party continued with the ALAMEDADOSOULNA combo. Rock arrived courtesy of veterans LA FUGA, whilst rap fans seized the moment to catch the rising stars DANTE and BLAKE, followed by SOGE CULEBRA. As night fell, CHE SUDAKA arrived with his cultural melting pot, and EL ÚLTIMO KE ZIERRE brought a return to the most combative rock. NACH literally split the stage in two with his masterclasses in knife-edged rap (but without the blood), whilst RELS B delivered one of the night’s most anticipated moments with his fresh, contemporary trap-rap. The Balkan orchestra DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV turned up the heat on the beach in Cádiz, getting everyone dancing and setting the stage for the arrival of one of the queens of the night, the media sensation LOLA ÍNDIGO, who captivated the entire festival with her “Ya no quiero ná”. FERNANDOCOSTA led the hip-hop surge of this new generation that is already making history. The night ended with dancing to GENERAL LEVY’s set, NIKONE’s heartfelt street anthems and TALCO’s ska-punk. The early hours were brought to a close by FOREIGN BEGGARS, the London rap sensation that saw off the last remaining revellers at the venue.
Wednesday saw the festival kick off with DJ SHEMMA, who was tasked with opening the afternoon at 6pm with a set that drew a large crowd of fans, followed by BYAMONT BROSS and ESTELA AMAYA, who invited the crowd to bid farewell to the last rays of sunshine with flamenco-inspired rhythms. WALLS put his rap battles on hold and presented his new project with something completely different, and around 10 pm it was time for the youngest rap act, HARD GZ, who thrilled the many fans who had come to see him. The ultimate beach party really took shape with the arrival of rockers MAFALDA, but if there’s one Andalusian band that all generations love and go wild dancing to, it’s O’FUNKÍLLO, and the night belonged to them as they won over the first wave of Caboplaters who packed the stage on its opening day. The early hours drew to a close with the explosion of colours from PAINT ANIMALS, leaving the thousands of attendees with a great taste in their mouths and wanting more.

With his first Latin Grammy in 2019 for X100pre and two nominations for his last two albums in the Best Latin Rock and Best Latin Urban/Alternative Music Album categories under his belt, the most universal ‘bad bunny’ has emerged in recent times as one of the leading exponents of a genre that is already the musical reality for millions of young people.

"The organisers of the CABO DE PLATA FESTIVAL have, unfortunately, had to take the decision not to hold the festival in 2021. It is a very difficult and sad decision for everyone, but the organisers cannot guarantee the safety of festival-goers, artists and festival staff, as the situation caused by Covid-19 is not yet fully under control."
2022 Edition
Bad Bunny didn't make it to Cabo de Plata in 2022 simply because his career trajectory completely exploded during the pandemic, moving him way out of the budget and logistical scope of regional festivals.
By the summer of 2022, he had become the most-streamed artist on the planet and shifted his focus entirely to massive, record-breaking solo stadium shows. Instead of touring the European festival circuit that July, he was preparing to launch his global "World's Hottest Tour" in August 2022, which exclusively hit massive sports stadiums across North and South America, quickly becoming the top-grossing tour in the world at the time.
The 2022 edition of Cabo de Plata featured a heavily urban, rap, and reggaeton-focused lineup to make up for the missed years, with major headliners and top-billed artists including Ayax y Prok, SFDK, Bad Gyal, Beret, Macaco, Mala Rodríguez, Ñengo Flow, and international guests like Lil Pump and Duki.
