Baños Árabes

Baños Árabes

The Arab Baths of Huéneja are partially hidden amongst a group of houses, in keeping with the traditional design of rural Nasrid baths. Dating back to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, their location was determined by the layout of the irrigation ditch that supplied water, part of which can still be seen next to the baths. The baths consist of three parallel, rectangular rooms corresponding to the traditional cold water room (bayt al-barid), warm water room (bayt al- wastani) and hot water room (bayt al-sajun). The vestibule (bayt al-maslaj) is located across from these rooms. The remains of the boiler and furnace, generally attached to the hot water room, are currently not visible, although it may be possible to recover them in the future. From the outside, only the vaults are visible as they are obscured by neighbouring buildings. Thanks to this, and to the building's solid construction, it is in a good state of preservation. Located on Calle del Ciento.
