Cerro del Piorno y La Molaina Archaeological Site, Pinos Puente
The sites, which are declared Assets of Cultural Interest, offer visitors unique views of the Granada plain and the only open-air cave paintings in the entire province. Due to their location, they are in a poor state of preservation as a result of natural erosion. However, schematic swallow-like figures and some feminine symbols in reddish tones can still be made out.
It is thought that there were initially more paintings, which were very similar to those preserved in Moclín. The archaeological importance of the site does not end with these paintings. Numerous Neolithic settlement remains have been found in the area, including a necropolis and a potential centre for producing and distributing stone bracelets, flint pieces and decorative objects such as necklace beads, as well as a vast array of other artefacts.
Another notable feature of this area is the presence of a species of snail endemic to Sierra Elvira (Iberus gualtieranos). It is characterised by its unique, flattened shell. It is protected due to its endangered status.
