Mare, one-Michelin-star restaurant in Cádiz
Mare is located in the heart of Cádiz city - Plaza Candelaria, in the Barrio del Populo.
The chef is Juan Viu, from Barbate — as the restaurant’s name suggests, his cuisine draws heavily from coastal tradition of his Andalucian roots: fresh fish and seafood, seasonal products from the local lonja (fish market), and dishes inspired by “cocina de la memoria” (age-old family recipes).
The restaurant is very small, with only a few tables, which makes for a highly personal, carefully curated dining experience. The 17-course menu costs €98, plus another €65 for wine pairing. You might find anchovy soup, squid toffee, or venison with sea anemone.
Mare is a perfect way to experience Cádiz’s coastal gastronomic tradition — a different vibe from inland city establishments.
Mare was awarded its Michelin star in 2026.
