Virgen del Carmen in Torremolinos
Torremolinos celebrates the fiestas of the Virgen del Carmen in the traditional fishermen's quarter of La Carihuela. The Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of sailors.
In the early morning of the 16th, the 'La Carihuela' choir will be in the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen to accompany a special mass.
In the afternoon, at 19:00, the procession leaves the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and goes down to the beach of La Carihuela. Once there, another maritime mass is held. At 21:45 is the emotional moment when the Virgin del Carmen is taken out to sea off the coast of Torremolinos, after which she will return to the church.
The Diputación de Málaga has granted the title of Fiesta de Singularidad Turística to the procession of the Virgen del Carmen de La Carihuela. It is the culmination of a series of celebrations that have been taking place in Torremolinos since 12 July.
