Radis restaurant in Jaén

Restaurant Radis

Juanjo Mesa’s small restaurant with a bistro ambience is located just a few blocks away from Jaén city’s two other Michelin-star restaurants – a new emerging gastronomic quarter. Contemporary cuisine with traditional roots, harking back to his grandmother’s stews, a frequent reference points for today’s chefs.

Tasting menus are Bercho with 9 courses (named after a nearby mountain) and Charca with 15 courses (named after a local pond), to which extra dishes can be added). His dishes are marked by superbly crafted sauces and jus. The chef won the title of Best Olive Oil Chef at the Jaén, Paraíso Interior contest organised as part of the San Sebastián Gastronomika festival.

Mesa cites as his main influence his parents’ restaurant, La Alcuza, in their pueblo, Pegalajar, just off the main A44 road.

Radis’s name comes from the French word for radish, since the chef’s nickname is El Rabanito. The restaurant was awarded its Michelin star in 2023, two years after opening.
