Costa del Sol - Cinema

The old cinemas of Costa del Sol and Malalaga have largely been replaced by large multi-screen air-conditioned complexes, showing mainly Spanish and dubbed US films (very few are subtitled in other languages). Going to the cinema is an idea 'rainy day activity'. Many tourists would not consider doing something that you can do at home all year round, but it can still be an interesting experience, especially for those studying Spanish.

Mirage

Mirage is located on Calle Gray D'Albion in front of the old Torre del Duque on the roundabout at the main entrance to Puerto Banus at the end of Cale José Banus. The club opened on the 28th April 2017 for its first summer season and offers great music, atmosphere, and an unparalleled looking venue.

History of Nívar

Nívar has ancient origins, as evidenced by the archaeological site near the town where Roman remains have been found. However, it was not until the medieval era that reliable records began to emerge.

Benamargosa

The village of Benamargosa, which is in the midst of a sea of citrus and other tropical fruit trees especially Avocado. The river Benamorgosa gives this land its lush propensity to let these abundant orchards flourish. The bridge over the river is the reason why this village has grown here.

Semana Santa in Sevilla

Strictly speaking this is a religious festival, but for most of the week, solemnity isn't the keynote - there's a lot of carousing and frivolity, and bars are full day and night with entire families, from grandparents to babes in arms staying up until three or four in the morning.

Molino y Balsa de San Miguel

Also known as Molino del Marqués de Almansa, this is a mill with two stones and two waterfalls that grind with the abundant flow provided by the Benahadux spring. Its remains include large pieces of limestone with which the cube was assembled, large blocks of stone.

Gerald Brennan

Gerald Brennan, who lived for many years in Churriana, gave English lessons to Spanish children in a class room above an old house in the Plaza Costa del Sol during the late 1950s. Some of the older residents of the town remember Brennan as a rather eccentric Englishman whom the villagers found 'peculiar'.

La Carolina

La Carolina is a small town of 16.000 inhabitants is located in the north of Jaen province adjacent to the A-4 Seville to Madrid motorway. It is the last town of any size to stop if heading out of Andalucia through the Despeñaperros gorge into Castilla La Mancha.

Isla Cristina Beaches - Playa del Hoyo

Playa del Hoyo is surrounded by pine woods and sand dunes and has a stretch of 2.8 km of fine golden sand. The beach is next to Playa Central, just before Casita Azul beach. It is parallel to the road that connects Isla Cristina with Islantilla.

Within the tidal zone there is a strong step formation a few meters inland at low tide, which has resulted in its name "hoyo", due to the hole that is produced by the currents. Several lives have been taken by this beach in its recent history, so care must be taken.

Torres

30 kilometres east of the city of Jaén, within the Sierra de Mágina mountain range, lies Torres. Torres is a village with a rich historical heritage. It features traditional Andalucian architecture with whitewashed houses and charming courtyards. There are many walking routes around the village.

Algeciras - Shopping

There are shopping shopping centres and retail parks in Algeciras. Centro Comercial Puerta Europa west of Algeciras city next to the A-7 coat road. El Corte Inglés at Paseo Juan Pérez Arriete. Local street market takes place on Tuesdays.

Tower of La Calahorra

The Tower of La Calahorra rises up at the south of the Roman bridge, the far end from the city centre. It is a fortified gate originally built by the Moors (Almohads) and extensively restored by King Enrique II of Castile in 1369 to defend the city from attack by his brother Pedro I the Cruel from the South. It was origionally an arched gate between two towers. Enrique II added a third cylindrical shaped tower connecting the outer two.

Playa de los Muertos

Expansive isolated beach. An impressive picture postcard has an aerial photograph showing the length of this dead straight beachy cove. Park the car in the car park by the information point and first walk to the viewpoint before descending the long path down to the beach.

Granada Airport - Car Hire

When staying in Granada city, you may wish to visit other areas around Granada province. Popular places to visit from Granada city include the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort, and the coast of the Costa Tropical and its beaches.  There many landmarks and monuments to see, and to make sure you see as many of these as possible we recommend hiring a car. As with most tourist areas car hire offices are available at the airport.

Rural Phone and Internet Access

Phone and broadband internet connection is now commonplace in the large cities and in the highly populated coasted areas of Andalucia. However, there are still some far-flung rural areas where internet and even land line connection is not guaranteed. Telefónica, Spanish equivalent of BT, is the main national land line provider.
