Cordoba Bus Service

Castro de Filabres

Castro de Filabres is situated in a riverbed between the Sierra Alhamilla and the Sierra de Gádor, an ideal environment for nature lovers to enjoy rural tourism. In the whitewashed village, where the houses all have flat roofs, the most striking building is the Iglesia de la Virgen del Rosario, built in the Mudejar style. The town has about 120 inhabitants.

La Galeria Gastro-mercado

The gourmet market in Fuengirola, Mercado La Galería, opened in February, 2016, but became a favourite place for locals and visitors to meet straightaway. Right in the heart of the town, between the Plaza de la Constitución and the sea, Arquitectos Martín have created an attractive space with a barrel-vaulted glass roof that lets the light flood in.

History

Cogollos de Guadix has ancient origins dating back to the Late Roman Empire and the Argaric period. Later settled by Arabs and later ruled by the Marques de Villena, it preserves a rich mix of cultures and history.

Weaving

There are many fine weavers in Andalucia, although hand-operated looms only survive in remote areas, for the production of crafts articles for export, such as the wool blankets of Grazalema in the province of Cadiz, and "jarapas" (rugs coarsely woven with scraps brightly coloured fabric) of Almeria.

Bullfighting - Fascinating Facts 3

As of July last year, bullfighting in Catalonia is banned, joining the Canary Islands in bidding goodbye to La Fiesta. There are strong anti-bloodsports movements in other parts of Spain - even Andalucia, which is considered its home (see FACT IV) - though it remains to be seen if or when these people will achieve their aim in ensuring that trajes de luces (suits of lights, worn by bullfighters) only appear as museum pieces. An estimated 150,000 people are employed in the sport in Spain, from bull-breeders to suit makers.

Chucena

Chucena is situated in the Huelva Comarca of El Condado and sits east of the province as the last village before getting to the province of Seville. It has 2020 inhabitants.

The village's Moros y los Cristianos, a popular festival dating from the 16th century, is one of the most famous in Spain. As one of the last regio ns to harbour the Moors, the Alpujarras is one of the best places to watch these pageants, the other villages here being Trevélez and Pampaneira.
