Puerto Serrano

Puerto Serrano is a farming town in undulating countryside on the north-western edge of the Sierra de Cadiz. The town is situated just off the Seville to Ronda road, close to the border with Seville province, but is easily overlooked by those en route to either town. It is the starting point of the well-known Via Verde de la Sierra, a popular hiking and cycling route.

History of Santa Fé

In its beginning, Santa Fé was a military camp of approximately 48ha created by the Catholic Monarchs in preparation for the final assault on the Nasrids (Arab dynasty) of the Kingdom of Granada. Out of the army camp grew an imposing town of bricks and mortar within a record time of just 80 days. The town’s structure follows the form of a cross based on two roads that intersect in the centre

Aljarafe

Aljarafe is the name of a 'comarca' (region or area) in the north to north east of the province of Seville. It is made up from 30 municipal districts and even more small villages.

Costa Tropical Destinations

Costa Tropical, being less well known than its more popular neighbour, the Costa del Sol, is no disadvantage for Granada's coastline with its subtropical climate. Its' beach resorts still retain a Spanish character and it boasts some spectacular cliffs, interspersed with secluded coves and sandy beaches, particularly in the protected coastal zone of Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Area, which it shares with Malaga province.

Lúcar

One of Lúcar’s most interesting features is the Balsa de Cela, a natural pool used by the Romans, with waters that stay at around 23 degrees Celsius all year round. The village has around 760 inhabitants. Lúcar’s name is thought to be of Latin origin, deriving from the word Lucus, which means sacred forest or jungle. According to the Book of Apeo and Population of 1571, the settlement was dedicated to foresting activities.

Picasso Museum Hotels

The choice of hotels in Malaga city is vast and varied. The Picasso Museum is in the old city centre which has undergone much renovation and restoration. Many old buildings have been brought back to their former glory, a number of which have been tastefully converted into 21st century hotels.

Cabo de Plata festival, Barbate

This successful festival has an 'all-are-going-on-a-summer-holiday' atmosphere that attracts a younger audience to the offbeat Costa de la Luz fishing town of Barbate. The 2024 edition took place a month earlier than usual, perhaps to avoid the peak holiday season for this coastal town. We are not aware of any announcements regarding the 2025 festival. The website still features information about the 2024 edition.

Golf

Golfing in Puerto de Santa Maria may be slightly different to other places in Andalucia just because it might be a more tranquil 18 holes. The Costa Ballena Golf course for example is relatively unknown, at least compared to Golf Courses on the Costa del Sol in more touristic places such as Marbella.

Iglesia de San Miguel

This simple model of a Mudejar church, with a single nave drawer plan, was not always so minimalistic. Built in 1530, it managed to survive the Moorish rebellion, various fires and an earthquake, until it was moved to another location. However, during this journey, it lost the back section of the sanctuary and the main chapel, and was reduced to this simple temple.

Dalías

Dalías has two main populated areas; Dalías and Celín. At just 12km from the beach, it is a popular destination for lovers of the outdoors, offering sports such as hiking, climbing, paragliding or mountain biking. It has about 4,000 inhabitants. The origins of Dalías date to the Al-Andalus period.

Patios Festival

Every Spring, the town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, blooms into bursts of colour. El Puerto de Santa Maria began its Fiesta de Los Patios around the year 2000. The "Association of Friends of the Patios of El Puerto de Santa Maria" (Asociación de los Amigos de los Patios Portuenses) sponsors a type of "open-house".

La Antilla

La Antilla is a small resort just 5km south of Lepe and has a pleasant promenade, a wide, sandy beach and some excellent seafood restaurants. It changes in the summer months due to the influx of tourists from Huelva, Seville and other parts of Spain. Is a more attractive holiday for the curious traveller to stay in an 'old fashioned seaside town' than its new resort neighbour, La Islantilla.
